    2701hg-8 manual

Upstream Rate The speed at which data goes over your broadband connection from your network to the Internet, measured in kilobits per second (kbps). The default gateway is a device your 2Wire gateway communicates with directly to give you access to the Internet. If you receive your Internet address settings automatically, the subnet mask has been set for you. This field informs you that the check has been performed and whether or not it was successful. If you experience slow performance on a particular Web site, you can use the 2Wire Bandwidth Meter to verify whether this is isolated to that particular Web site, or if it is a more general occurrence. Data Error Description ATM Cell Header Errors The number of ATM cell header CRC errors since the 2Wire gateway was last restarted, and the elapsed time since the last cell header error. ATM Loss of Cell Delineation. Broadband Link. The DSL and ATM panel allows you to select a DSL line and manually configure your ATM settings. Enabled Disabled Click SAVE Modifying Broadband Connection Settings The Broadband Connection panel allows you to modify your broadband connection. From the Connection Type drop-down menu, select the connection type: PPPoE, PPPoA, Direct IP (DHCP or Static), or Routed IPoA. In the Default Gateway field, enter the default gateway address you want the gateway to use. Click SAVE Modifying the Broadband DNS By default, the gateway automatically obtains the DNS server addresses via DHCP. The status of each device is shown in the Local Devices list in your 2Wire gateway user interface. If the “show inactive devices” option is enabled, and the device becomes inactive because it is powered off or removed from your network, this icon will display as Inactive. Note: For additional information, refer to “Showing a Device as Inactive”. By default, the 2Wire gateway ships with WEP enabled and a preconfigured network name. The default WEP key is located on the bottom of the gateway, next to the serial number.

Your local time is set using the Time Zone setting you configured when you set up your system. Viewing Your Broadband Link Summary The Broadband Link Summary page provides general information about the current status of your broadband link connection and your system configuration. Incoming is the speed of data flowing from the Internet to your network; Outgoing is the speed of data flowing from your network to the Internet.Technical support representatives use this information to help troubleshoot problems with your broadband connection. Figure 8. View Broadband Link Details Page The following table shows the information that may be displayed on the Broadband Link Details page.

In addition to relying on information about the destination (3-tuple), the 2Wire gateway will also use information about the source of the connection (5-tuple). ICMP destination unreachable — terminate session. The Management and Diagnostic Console provides information about the status of the 2Wire gateway, its broadband network connections, attached home networking devices, system and security information, and a running log of any error conditions. For example, DSL Diagnostics will display only if a user has a gateway that connects to the Internet via DSL. For example, if you are experiencing connection problems you can use the Ping tool on the WAN Tests page to ensure that the 2Wire gateway can “ping” a designated IP address. The value is Unprovisioned if the 2Wire gateway has not yet been provisioned. System Time The day, month, year, and time; or “Retrieving date and time settings from Internet” if not set. Subnet Mask The subnet mask to be used by the 2Wire gateway on the broadband link. Gateway The IP address of the default gateway (default router) that. Secondary DNS The IP address of the secondary DNS server that the 2Wire gateway is to use for DNS name resolution on the broadband link. The current downstream and upstream noise margin in dB. Current Attenuation. The current downstream and upstream DSL attenuation in dB. Current Output Power. The current downstream and upstream DSL transmit and receive power in dB. Transmit The cumulative number of cells transmitted, and the number and percentage transmitted in error. Loss of Signal Failures The number of DSL loss of signal failures since the 2Wire gateway was last restarted, and the elapsed time since the last loss of signal failure. Corrected Blocks The number of corrected DSL superframes that had data errors detected during reception. When the 2Wire gateway detects outbound traffic, the session is reestablished.

When encryption is enabled, you must define an encryption key for the 2Wire gateway’s wireless access point and configure that same key on each wireless client that will use your 2Wire gateway wireless network. You should manually configure these settings ONLY if you thoroughly understand IP internetworking, because an incorrect configuration can. Click the tab. If you have more than one digital voice line, in the Assign Number field select which phone line you wish to associate with this phone. Click SUBMIT Setup is complete. Translates a local network’s IP address to an external address maintained by the 2Wire gateway, effectively “hiding” the existence of a home network to the Internet. The 2Wire gateway then uses this external address to communicate with the Internet on behalf of devices connected to the local network. Firewall Figure 15. Select a computer Click the radio button. Just as the post office delivers mail to your home address, servers know to deliver data to your computer based on your IP address. IP addresses can be dynamic, meaning that your computer “borrows” the IP address for the necessary timeframe, or they can be fixed, meaning that the number is permanently assigned to your computer. A specification for connecting multiple computer users on an Ethernet LAN to a remote site through common customer premises equipment (such as a modem). PPPoA combines the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), commonly used in dialup connections, with the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) protocol, which supports multiple users in a LAN. Wireless channel. But if advance notice is not practical, the telephone compan y will notify the customer as soon as possible. This is what a firewall does. By design a firewall blocks all incoming and outgoing connections. This, of course, makes it impossible to use the Internet, so by default some of the connections have been opened to allow Internet use. This is done when you want an application to run smoother or a game to have less lag. This process of opening a port is more frequently called a port forward. That's why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots. To do this you need to use a web browser because your router uses what is called a web interface. Some common web browsers include Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Edge. It shouldn't matter what web browser you use, so go ahead and pick an obscure one if you want and prove us wrong. This is typically found at the top of the page like this: It's at the top and has the numbers 192.168.1.254 in it. All you need to do now is replace what is in the address bar with the router's IP Address. A router's IP Address can also be referred to as the computer's default gateway.

If you have changed your router's IP address in the past and don't remember what you changed it to, check out our How to Find Your Router's IP Address guide. You should then see a page like this: This means anyone within your home network can make changes to your router. This is inadvisable, we recommend creating a unique username and password for your web interface. If you don't remember what that username or password is then we suggest trying our Find Password App. It helps you figure out your lost password on your home network. To do this let's start on the first page after accessing the router: This list contains a list of all the devices that are visible on your home network. The name does not matter so pick something that has meaning to you. One configuration has TCP selected and the other one has have UDP selected. If you are only forwarding a single port number then enter that number into both the Port (or Range) From and the Port (or Range) To boxes. The default protocol timeouts are 86400 for TCP and 600 for UDP. Unless you have a reason to use different numbers these timeouts should work fine. This Open Port Checker is the only one online that has Guaranteed Results. Learn more about how to check for open ports here. This router features a built-in SPI firewall to protect the network against hackers and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. All 2Wire products. Browse the Web using your wireless devices when connected to its 54 Mbps Wireless G channel and game with confidence using its wired interface, so you can do away with the risk of wireless signal interruptions ruining your experience. Get the full speed of your Internet connection using its 4-port wired interface to connect more access points or devices. Use the single USB 1.1 port behind the two-wire modem for data storage and connect to the Web via a WAN port.

Browse on your network with peace of mind with WEP, WPA, and SSID Broadcast disable security features, and manage it via web-based administration or remote configuration. Its user-friendly setup interface allows for establishing your home network painlessly, making this router a friendly option for those looking to have their own network. The modem works well and the interface is easy to navigate. If you plan on using this with a fixed IP address it will help if you know something about setting up a DSL modem. Selecting the appropriate 2-wire pair combination for your line will work better than leaving the setting at automatic. You can do this via trial and error easy enough. The modem came with no setup instructions whatsoever but the 130 some odd page manual was easy enough to find on the internet. At so many pages I'm not surprised that the manual doesn't get included since that would certainly add a fair amount to the price. In the few weeks that I've had this installed there have been no problems with it whatsoever. I can not rate the reliability higher now, but if it keeps on going for a year I'd definitely give it a 5 star reliability rating. I did order a second one though it arrived with 2 of the prongs broken from the power adapter. I was sent a replacement power adapter that was not for the modem - it was for a mobile phone. I've taken the broken one apart and am simply putting it in another enclosure. It's weaknesses are mostly confined to the router, and I won't go into them, because they have been covered ad nausium, and the adsl can be used with separate router. Yes, I occasionally have to restart the modem, usually because of router problems, but I can usually maintain good service for a week or better. The 2701HG-B feature set is minimal, easy to set up web interface, good case-runs cool, with good network performance and wireless range. In my case I had some old wireless devices that still needed WEP and 802.11B so it fit my needs. Very secure.

Purchased this router as a backup for an identical one that I currently use. I have had 2 Westell 327W's which, for no obvious reason ceased to function. Verisign. When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more It even has a preconfigured 802.11g Wi-Fi access built-in, which is what we’re going to discuss now. Once installed, the 2Wire Gateway will start beaconing a default network name (SSID) of 2WIRE and the last 3 digits of the gateway’s serial number for the Wi-Fi access, such as “2WIRE254”. This network name (SSID) should be printed on the 2Wire Gateway, along with the Serial Number. If you’d pop open a laptop or boot up a desktop PC with Wi-Fi capability you should see it on the list of available wireless networks. Unlike a normal wireless router or gateway you might buy from a store, the 2Wire Gateway comes with Wi-Fi security already enabled for you. Your neighbors won’t be able to connect to or eavesdrop on your network via Wi-Fi. The gateway comes with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA or WPA2) PSK encryption enabled. It even has a default encryption key preconfigured. This should be printed on the 2Wire Gateway. To connect to the gateway and access the local network and Internet, you’d simply select the 2WIRE xxx network from the list of available wireless networks and enter the preconfigured encryption key, such as shown below. Remember, the 2Wire Gateway also has 4 Ethernet ports if you want to plug in computers rather use Wi-Fi. Once connected, you can optionally change the default network name (SSID), encryption key, and other settings by logging into the gateway’s web-based control panel. You’d simply open your web browser and enter the gateway’s default IP address: 192.168.1.254. Then click Settings, LAN, and Wireless. See an example of the wireless settings below. Note: The model number of the 2Wire Gateway I used is i38HG; the control panel of other models or firmware versions might vary.

If you make any changes, be sure to hit Save. When prompted for the password, enter the default password, printed on the 2Wire Gateway. What does U-verse have to do with this? The Hauppauge 2250 has dual IR blasters to control two set-top boxes, eliminating the cable-card problem, and would allow an easy media server connection along with free DVR capability. With 2 such tuners, you could view and record 4 channels simultaneously using 4 set-top boxes. My only disappointment is that the 2250 lacks a HD video input, so video quality for TV would be only S-Video at best. However, your comment on the product being oversold in an area and not being able to supply enough bandwidth is incorrect. Like all services, especially any DSL variant is going to have these same restrictions. You're getting a solid through-put connection on your line that's not shared. Cable suffers from line sharing as the connection is split once it hits their local node or cross box.Classic single point of failure, but that might be forgivable if they didn't suck so bad. After reading the article. Not only is it over priced, but is truly a lie. They even go as far as try to sell the consumer that the internet broadband is blazing faster than DSL. When they first rolled out in my aunts neighborhood, they were re-selling DSL as Standard, Pro and Elite packages. They have dropped the Standard and added 3 Max services. All oft he Max services are truly a joke. The sales man could not tell you what speed any thing was. Then after it installed and she could barely Skype with her friends, she asked me to come over and look at their settings. And of course, like most ISP technicians, the ireless router was left completely open with default Username and password.I had to reset the router. After booting 6 neighbors off her service and locking it down, she still had difficulties, Choppy VOIP, slow web browsing pages. She was now surfing with barely more than dial-up speeds.
